One of the most difficult consequences of being charged with a serious criminal charge is the loss or damage to the relationships with your friends and family. If, for example, you are accused of possessing, making or distributing child pornography, it may not be long until those closest to you start distancing themselves. In some cases, they may even participate in building a case against you.
This appears to be what is happening to former spokesperson for the Subway restaurants, Jared Fogle.
Readers of this blog are likely already aware that Fogle has been accused of and plans to plead guilty to charges stemming from traveling to meet a minor and child pornography. According to recent reports, one of the people who helped the FBI collect evidence against Fogle is someone he evidently trusted.
She was a reporter at the time and she says Fogle started making inappropriate comments to her. She notified the FBI and then went on to record numerous conversations without Fogle’s knowledge during which he made several incrimination comments. Her recordings turned out to be an important piece of the federal investigation.
It can be very difficult to come to terms with the fact that you can lose relationships as a result of being accused of serious crimes. It is only natural to think that we can speak openly with people about certain things. But if those things are of a criminal nature, it is very possible that the people with whom you spoke could be called to testify against you.
