The ins and outs of a drunk driving checkpoint

Being stopped for suspicion of drunk driving is stressful. Even if you've had a couple of drinks but you are not under the influence, you will still likely be very nervous. A very difficult situation to find yourself in is the DUI checkpoint that law enforcement officials operate every now and then in Orlando, Florida. These checkpoints are designed to get as many drivers off the road who might be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

You will be required to provide the officer with your license, auto insurance documents and the registration for the vehicle. All of these documents need to be valid or else you could face fines or more serious penalties if any of them are forged or fraudulent.

While speaking with you about your documents and where you are coming from and headed, the officer will be monitoring you for signs of impairment. The officer will take a look at your eyes to see if they are bloodshot. The officer will look at your face to see if it is flushed. The officer will listen to your speech to see if it is slurred. The officer will even look for the smell of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle.

If there is the slightest sign of impairment, the officer will administer field sobriety tests for you to complete. If you fail these tests, you will be arrested for DUI in Orlando, Florida.

Now that you know how a DUI checkpoint operates, you will be prepared should you ever find yourself in one in Florida. The best advice is to simply comply with the officers, answer their questions and provide them the documents they request.
