Police make 71 arrests after 5-year child porn investigation

There are a lot of perceptions that people have in regards to different crimes. When it comes to criminal sexual conduct, for example, there is a definite stigma that goes along with that. Members of the public and media often make their assumptions known, but law enforcement agents are expected to respect every person's rights and enforce the laws fairly. However, there have been many cases when a person's civil rights are violated in the pursuit of a criminal conviction. This can add to the already-long list of challenges that a person accused of sexual misconduct in Florida can face.

More than a dozen men charged in prostitution sting

Law enforcement agents across Florida spend enormous amounts of time, money and resources on planning and executing sex crime stings. It is not surprising, then, that they want their efforts to pay off. This generally means they want to arrest as many people as they can and file multiple charges against each person. These undercover stings can make a great headline in the news, but it is important not to lose sight of the individuals whose lives may dramatically change in the blink of an eye.

Mother: Sex offender registry is overly harsh, ineffective

People who are convicted of a sex offense may be sentenced to jail, their reputation could be destroyed and they could be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of their lives. Of all the punishments that people face for a conviction, some people argue that being placed on the sex offender registry is the harshest.

Two middle school students facing child pornography charges

Parents across Florida are facing new challenges when it comes to keeping their children safe and away from legal troubles. Young people have access to the Internet, cellphones and countless ways to communicate and share information. As helpful as these resources can be, they can also get kids in some serious trouble when used irresponsibly.
